It’s so much more fun getting ready in the morning when you have a spot for everything. I am going to lay out for you how we reorganized our closet! It’s so easy and really isn’t too time consuming. Hope ya’ll get inspired here!
- CLEAN OUT any clothes that you haven’t worn in the past 2 years.
Let’s face it . . . . if you haven’t worn something in the past 2 years, you won’t wear it again! Plus, don’t you want to make some space for those clothes that you know you are going to be buying?? This is a great way to start because it really frees up a ton of room and helps you decide how many hangers you will need (See Step 2).
2. CHOOSE the same hangers.
So I did this immediately after cleaning out our closet! I cannot tell you how much better this made our space looks and I totally did not expect it. I used the white Joy hangers for our closet. I will link them here. They are also available on Amazon!
3. CREATE different groups to combine your clothes into.
Originally, I had all of my tops together. What I have recently done that really makes the closet look more uniform is separate my tops by short sleeve/sleeveless and long sleeve. I grouped together all of my short sleeve and sleeveless shirts together in one section of my closet and did the same with my sweaters and long sleeve tees. I did the same thing with Michael’s shirts and it looks so much better than them all being mixed together.
I also keep a section specifically for my dresses, another for jeans/pants and lastly, Michael’s suits/dress pants!
4. COLOR – COORDINATE.
Things are just so much easier to find when they are color-coordinated! I coordinate just like the rainbow but if you have a lot of one color, you can put those where they are easiest to grab. Whatever floats your boat :o)
5. COLLECT a set of baskets/bins.
All you need to do is figure out what your style is. For example, our closet has no windows so we chose to go with some light bins and some items from The Clear Collection that you can find at The Container Store. That way, it lightened up our closet and made it more inviting!
Thanks so much for checking back in!
Go tackle that closet!
